Sha’Carri Richardson Arrested Following Alleged Domestic Dispute with Christian Coleman

Olympic sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson was arrested on Sunday, July 27, at Seattle–Tacoma International Airport following an altercation with her boyfriend, fellow track star Christian Coleman. The incident reportedly escalated from a verbal dispute to a physical confrontation.

According to a police report cited by The New York Times, Richardson and Coleman began arguing after passing through TSA security. Officers at the scene stated that they saw Richardson, 25, repeatedly push Coleman, 29, causing him to stumble into a nearby column. USA Today also reported that surveillance footage appeared to show Coleman trying to walk away, while Richardson continued to bump into him and allegedly threw a pair of headphones at him.

Despite the altercation, Coleman declined to press charges and told authorities he did not want to be listed as a victim.

Richardson was taken into custody and booked into the South Correctional Entity in Des Moines, Washington, later that day. She was released the following morning, July 28, according to jail records accessed by PEOPLE.

USA Track and Field (USATF) issued a brief statement in response to the situation, saying, “USATF is aware of the reports. We do not have a comment on this matter.” Representatives for Richardson and the Seattle Police Department have not yet responded to requests for further comment.

Just days after her arrest, Richardson competed at the USATF Outdoor Championships, a key qualifying event for the upcoming World Championships. Both she and Coleman advanced from the preliminary rounds on Thursday, July 31. Richardson clocked 11.07 seconds in her 100-meter heat on Friday, August 1, finishing second and securing a spot in the semifinals.

However, she later withdrew from the 100-meter semifinal and also opted out of the 200-meter event. Her absence won’t impact her participation at the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo, as she already has an automatic entry due to her title as reigning world champion in the 100 meters.

Richardson’s recent track record includes a silver medal in the 100 meters and a gold in the 4x100-meter relay at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
